Dr Westerdahl (Traditional Hawaiian Diet)

August 16, 2017

Today on Health & Longevity, Dr. John Westerdahl presents his lecture, ‘The Traditional Hawaiian Diet’. This lecture was presented before a live audience in Honolulu, Hawaii when he was a featured speaker at the annual Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Dr. Westerdahl describes the traditional native Hawaiian diet and how it differs from today’s ‘modern’ diet among the Hawaiian people. While the ancient Hawaiians were very healthy, the Westernization of the native Hawaiian diet has promoted the increased incidence of chronic degenerative diseases among the Hawaiian population. As a result, today the native Hawaiian people are among the unhealthiest population in the world. Dr. Westerdahl describes research demonstrating that when today’s Hawaiian people return to their traditional ancient diet, their health improves and diseases are reversed. The program also features a discussion about the healthy plant foods found in Hawaii that promote good nutrition and health.
