Much of the Old Testament tells the story of how God’s people refused to follow his plan for their lives. Upon entering the promised land 40 years after the Exodus, God instructed his chosen people to avoid imitating the customs and religious practices of the tribes living in Canaan. Unfortunately, they often chose to worship the pagan gods of the nations around them. Their life experience is summed up in these words, “they worshiped worthless idols and became worthless themselves.” 2 Kings 17:15 NLT
God asked them, “How long will you love what is worthless?” Psalm 4:2 GNT. He asked the same question of every generation that followed. Do you think he asks us the same question today? How do we spend the time, talents, and energy God has given us? It’s true that we are what we eat both in the physical realm and in the spiritual realm. If we spend time ingesting the world we will become like the world. If we spend time on worthless things, we will become worthless, just as surely as those whose sad stories are recorded in the Bible. However, when we spend time with Jesus, we will become like him.
Paul’s words admonish us to: “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 2:5. He urges us to think like Jesus did—to ask ourselves, “What would Jesus do? (WWJD) Paul encourages us to “dwell” on the words of Christ. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” Colossians 3:16. To dwell means to live there—as in your dwelling is your home. Thus dwelling on the words of Christ means to live in the atmosphere of Jesus. Paul goes on to say, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:2. What our mind feeds on determines who we will become. Paul suggests that our mind needs constant renewal. We need to be reminded daily to walk with Christ and imitate him. Listening to LifeTalk Radio will help you dwell with Jesus. Our prayer must be, “Lead me to do your will; make your way plain for me to follow.” Psalm 5:8 GNT
The goal of LifeTalk Radio is to connect you with Christ. The uplifting music and encouraging programs we broadcast are designed to lift you above the destructive realm of this world and into the presence of heaven. The same is true for your kids and grandchildren. What is attracting them? Who are the influencers in their lives? Today’s kids are bombarded with content, images and videos that promote evil. And like each generation of Israel in the Bible, they must individually choose to follow good or be ruined by evil. Why not help kids choose a better way by spending time with LifeTalk Kids? When kids listen to the positive programs we broadcast, they will become positive rather than worthless. So, help your kids avoid the worthless idols of this world and they will NOT become worthless! Help your kids choose Jesus as their number one influencer. Teach them this prayer, “Keep me from paying attention to what is worthless.” Psalm 119:37 GNT
