The first Friday in March is designated as the World Day of Prayer. According to the World Day of Prayer International Committee, the “World Day of Prayer is a global ecumenical movement led by Christian women who welcome you to join in prayer and action for peace and justice.” It is celebrated annually in over 170 countries. According to Wikipedia, “The movement aims to bring together women of various races, cultures and traditions in a yearly common Day of Prayer, as well as in closer fellowship, understanding and action throughout the year…The World Day of Prayer aims to demonstrate that prayer and action are inseparable and that both have immeasurable influence in the world.”
At LifeTalk Radio, we believe prayer makes a difference and we encourage you to pray on the World Day of Prayer, plus we encourage you to pray every day. Prayer is a privilege that connects us with our heavenly Father. Also when we pray for each other, and with each other, it connects us through our heavenly Father.
For many years, we’ve offered a small free book to our listeners titled, Steps to Christ. In this book, there is a chapter on prayer which states, “Prayer is the opening of the heart to God as to a friend. Not that it is necessary in order to make known to God what we are, but in order to enable us to receive Him. Prayer does not bring God down to us, but brings us up to Him. When Jesus was upon the earth, He taught His disciples how to pray. He directed them to present their daily needs before God, and to cast all their care upon Him. And the assurance He gave them that their petitions should be heard, is assurance also to us…Our heavenly Father waits to bestow upon us the fullness of His blessing…What a wonder it is that we pray so little!” Step to Christ, page 93. True indeed! What is stopping us from praying more often? Imagine, God is ready to listen to you any time, day or night. He is interested in whatever concerns you. Why not talk to him right now and share what’s on your heart at this very moment. In the Bible, Jesus says, “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” Matthew 21:22 NIV
